Is the CISSP all multiple-choice?
The CISSP certification exam is not entirely multiple-choice, but the vast majority are. The CAT exam also includes advanced innovative items that include scenario-based questions, drag-and-drop questions, and hot-spot questions. Specifically, the CISSP format consists of:
- 100 - 150 questions
- Each question has four possible answer choices
- The questions are selected from a bank of over 1000 questions
- The exam is computer-adaptive, meaning questions adapt based on performance
- Each question is weighted differently based on complexity
- A passing score is 700 out of 1000 possible points
- No points are deducted for incorrect answers
So, while the CISSP aims to assess judgment and critical thinking, the exam primarily uses multiple-choice questions along with some advanced question formats. This allows the exam to be standardized and scored more objectively through psychometrics.
Does CISSP require coding?
No, CISSP does not require coding skills. It focuses on information and cyber security management, policies, and practices.
Is CISSP a lifetime certification?
No, the CISSP certification is not a lifetime certification. Certified CISSP professionals must meet certain requirements every three years to maintain their credentials. Specifically, the CISSP renewal requirements are:
- Earn 120 CPE credits every three years to maintain certification
- CPE credits must be relevant to security-related activities
- At least 20 CPE credits per year are required
- Report CPE activities through an online tracking system
- Pay a $125 renewal fee every three years
If these renewal requirements are not met, the CISSP certification will expire. Individuals with an expired credential will have to retake the full CISSP exam to reinstate certification.
