Online CISSP Exam Training FAQs
How many hours is the CISSP Exam?
As of April 15, 2024, there is now only one version of the CISSP exam: The Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) exam, which is used for all language options. This CISSP CAT exam lasts up to 3 hours and consists of 100-150 multiple-choice questions.
The exam covers eight domains of security. Studying all the knowledge across these eight domains is critical to passing the CISSP exam within the allotted time frame.
Most exam prep training courses recommend a minimum of 100-200 hours of studying to properly internalize the information. Some accelerated boot camps cram study time into five consecutive intensive 8-10 hour days.
Self-paced online courses may take four-to-six weeks studying, around 10 to 20 hours per week. Ultimately, the number of study hours needed depends on your existing knowledge and learning pace. How many attempts are there for CISSP?
For the CISSP certification exam, if you don’t pass the exam you are allowed the following additional attempts:
- After your first attempt, you may retest after 30 test-free days.
- If you don’t pass the exam on your second attempt, you may retest after 60 test-free days from your most recent exam attempt.
- If you don’t pass the exam on your third attempt and for all subsequent retakes, you may retest after 90 test-free days from your most recent exam attempt.
